Therapist Mom Training Groups
I learned early on how caring for clients and caring for kids can lead to some serious burnout without the right types of support.
No one really gets what it's like being a therapist except for other therapists. And no one really gets being a mom like other moms. I created this special space where both of your identities are understood with compassion, support, and care.
Join us for a 1.5 hour ongoing training group discussing all things mother and therapist. We talk parenting challenges, case conceptualizations, sleeping nightmares, and everything else involved in your role as Therapist Mom.
If you identify as a Mom and a Therapist, this place is for you.
Nothing is off topic.
Moms say they leave session feeling grounded, comforted and supported.

The group will be a place to process and discuss issues related to where therapist and mother intersect in an attempt to better understand your identity and impulses. The group is a live and in person container to better understand how you perceive others in the group, get live interpersonal feedback, and learn what gets in the way of you connecting with others. This information in turn helps in understanding how you show up for clients. As a space for client consultation, I will guide us in exploring and discussing issues related to clients from a lens of transference and countertransference, specifically as evoked by our motherhood roles.
In the past we have talked about issues such as struggles around ones new identity, the relationship in the marriage, navigating maternity leave, balancing self-care with parenting responsibilities, how to run a private practice, making friends as an adult, among other topics. I'm excited to lead this journey, and hope you all will join me! Past members have found this a very supportive and nurturing space, and key to their self-care routine.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is this group ongoing, or is it drop in?
This is an ongoing training group, which means that when you sign up you agree to come regularly. We ask that when members join, they do so with the assumption they will be in the group for at least a year. This gives you time to create deeper relationships and fully experience the group process. Obviously, life can happen and the group may not be what you had hoped and you are welcome to go when you need to. That said, our intention is to create a place of stability, comfort and growth, which happens best when folks are committed.
Is this group a support group?
This is a training group aimed at helping you better understand your identities of mother, daughter, partner and therapist. So while the group is supportive, it uses the group structure to better understand how you show up in the world and in relationships. By interacting in group, we begin to better understand patterns of interaction that may occur outside of the room and in your life and your work. This is a wonderful place to learn how to create intimacy in relationships, assert your needs clearly, cope with difficult feelings, and practice accepting help and support. Our goal is to understand how our role as mother influences, informs, and shapes our work as therapist and vice versa.
How many people are in it?
The cap of each group is at 8 members, but you can contact me to find out about the current number enrolled.
I do/do not have Post-partum depression. Am I a good fit for the group?
Some of the moms in our group are actively depressed when they join, and others are simply wanting support around the day-to-day challenges of being a therapist and a mother. We are open to any and all. The group will likely not be sufficient to help you manage a PPMD, however, and it is likely that if you do not currently have a therapist that I may at some point recommend you see an individual therapist.
Why do you run these groups?
I'm a psychologist and a mom of two. After having my first child I was quite depressed and didn't know how to find support. I also felt a lot of shame about being a therapist and struggling with PPMD. I know what it is like to have a baby and have a significant mood disorder, and to have a baby and just struggle with the normal day-to-day adjustment of parenting, and I love supporting moms who are wanting help with any and all of it.
I haven't done a group before. How do I know if I'm a good fit?
That's a great question. The first step to joining is to meet with me one-on-one so that we can get to know each other. We will meet anywhere from once to three times, depending on the need. When we meet it gives us a chance to see if our goals are aligned, and if the group is the best to meet your needs. We'll talk more about what the group will feel like and answer any questions you have.
What do people talk about?
Anything and everything. It's up to the group! Some weeks folks bring in a case they are wanting support around, other times they talk about frustrations running a private practice or with their boss, and other times they talk about their relationships with their parents or partners. We cover whatever the members bring in to the room.
Okay, I think I want to sign up. What's next?
We schedule a time to meet! We will meet 2 - 3 times individually at my individual session rate ($225) to start to get to know each other, establish goals, and make sure that we are a good fit for one another. You can email me or call me to set up a time!
